On-again, off-again flurries Tuesday left snow removal companies in a bit of a holding pattern.

"A day like today, I don't like. A dream snow for me is one that falls overnight," said Billy Reynolds, owner of When Needed Lawn Care.

Reynolds prefers to wake up early, head out in his truck and clear snow while the day is young. Tuesday's daytime snow showers, however, had Reynolds and other plowing entrepreneurs playing the waiting game.

"You go out, salt what you can, plow around some cars and do what you can do," Reynolds said.

"There's so much activity and so many obstacles. Also, they (meteorologists) are still tracking the snow," said Calon Graves, a homebuilder and 25-year snow removal veteran.

Graves' business, Key Snow Removal, offers his customers the typical choice between a "trigger" contract --Graves automatically shows up to remove the snow when it the accumulation reaches 2 inches -- and a will-call contract that requires customers to call and request the service.
