The Accredited Snow Contractors Association is planning its own Legislative Day on the Hill in Washington D.C. for Sept. 11 and 12.
A tentative event agenda and specific details about a host hotel for the event are being finalized, and the ASCA will make a more detailed announcement in the coming weeks.
ASCA Executive Director Kevin Gilbride says the association’s Board and the Government Affairs Committee elected to begin holding its own Day on the Hill in DC this year, as opposed to partnering with NALP.
“We’ve experienced great success in the many years that we’ve taken part in Day on the Hill,” Gilbride says. “However, as we’ve grown as an association and our legislative messaging has become more focused, the board believed it was the right time to begin scheduling our initiative for the snow and ice management industry.
“While some details are still being finalized, we believed it was important to get the initial information and, most importantly, the dates out in the industry to those planning to participate.
Gilbride add that those individuals planning to attend the ASCA’s Day on the Hill should email him ASAP at kgilbride@gie.net.
“Once we have an idea of attendees and the need for rooms, we will find a hotel that can accommodate our group,” he says.
The tentative schedule for ASCA 2017 Day on the Hill is as follows:
Save The Date!
Executive Summit 2018 heads back to the beach with plans to invade Hilton Head Island.
On the heels of a successful 2017 conference, the ASCA has announced Hilton Head Island will be the location for its 2018 Executive Summit.
Then annual event, scheduled for Aug. 1-3, will take place at the Sonesta Resort, located at the southern tip of Hilton Head Island.
“After doing considerable due diligence on where to stage the 2018 Executive Summit the planning committee came to the unanimous decision that Hilton Head and the Sonesta Resort we the idea place to hold our event,” says ASCA Executive Director Kevin Gilbride. “Not only is Hilton Head known as a family-friendly destination, but the Sonesta Resort provides attendees with all the amenities for a successful conference.”
ASCA Executive Summit is an annual conference focused on the business needs of the snow industry. Every year, the ASCA bring in dynamic speakers to discuss the industry and how professional snow and ice managers can improve their businesses. The conference is much more than learning how to plow snow. The three-day educational and networking event addresses the business management topics that every business faces, including how to better communicate with employees, increase the bottom line, and reaching customers.
This year the ASCA and Snow Magazine held the popular industry conference in Park City, Utah, following the trend of alternating between the beach and mountain locations.
“Park City and The Wasatch Range was a wonderful departure from the tropical Florida beach setting,” Gilbride says. “Bringing it back to the beach in 2018 – especially to Hilton Head – will provide opportunities for contractors to wish to attend to bring their families along, as well, to take advantage of the family vacation-like atmosphere. Frankly, it would surprise me to set an Executive Summit attendance record in 2018.”
Hilton Head Island was recently named the No. 1 island in the continental U.S. by Travel + Leisure.
Registration details will be announced in the coming weeks.
Smashing Success
Earlier this year, the ASCA and Snow Magazine announced the introduction of the Snow and Ice Show, a new industry event focused on education, certification, networking, and the latest snowfighting tools for increased efficiency and profitability.
This year's inaugural show took place in mid-May at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis and drew more than 400 registrants, many of whom took advantage of the opportunity to begin, earn or renew their ASCA-Certification. ASCA-C is an annual certification process developed for individuals who work in the professional snow and ice management industry. An ASCA Certified (ASCA-C) snow contractor has obtained an education-based certification developed for the individual. The education is risk management based and was developed to support the ANSI Approved American National Standards for the snow and ice management industry.
“We not only had contractors begin their education requirements for ASCA-C, but a number of participants were able to complete their requirements and receive their ASCA-C certificate that same day,” says says ASCA Executive Director Kevin Gilbride.
Details for the 2018 event will be announced shortly, he says.
